An interesting addition to Barbadillo´s portfolio.  We usually think of Palomino as a grape used in the production of Fino Sherry. If you know Sherry, then this wine will take you by surprise.  Here Palomino shows other aspects of its personality, showy salty baked lemon and chamomile with an interesting textural complexity.

Winemaking: Selection of Palomino grapes from Albariza soils near San Lucar de Barrameda. Fermented in stainless steel tanks 17’C, 4 months ageing on lees prior to bottling.

Schlossberg Grand Cru is one of the largest and oldest Grand Crus in Alsace. Soils: grantic outcrops.

This is the second wine of Chateau d´Issan which was first introduced in 1995, and uses the fruit from younger vines that don´t make the top quality grade to go into the Grand Vin from Chateau d´Issan. The grapes meanwhile are grown on the same terroir in Margaux.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot

Just finished the 2008, and now launched the 2012.  Successful vintage despite violent hail in June, a dry sunny summer allowed exceptional ripening.

50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir. The Chardonnay grapes are selected from various crus on the Côte de Blancs including Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant, Chouilly, whilst the Pinot Noir grapes are from crus on the famous Mountagne de Reims including Bouzy, Ay, Verzy, Mailly, Rilly-la-Montagne.

First created in 1968. Made from 100% Pinot Noir sourced from 10 different crus in the Montagne de Reims including crus from the famous Côte de Bouzy. Skin maceration for 48 – 72 hours prior to pressing to extract colur and aromas. Ageing 5 years on lees prior to disgorgement.

the blend is based mainly on the excellent yet slightly cooler 2007 vintage (60%), together with 20% each from the 2006 and 2004 vintages.  These three vintages were all exceptional vintages with complementary characters.

Consists of mainly Chardonnay, supplemented by Pinot Noir and selected from 11 of the 17 Grand Crus of Champagne. Chardonnay 60%, Pinot Noir 40%.  Has had 3 years more aging than the Grand Siècle Ip25 with a total of 12 years on lees, dosage 7g/l

Blend based mainly on the excellent 2008 vintage (65%), together with 25% from the 2007 vintage and 10% from the 2006 vintage.  All three vintages were exceptional years with complementary character.  Blend of mainly Chardonnay, supplemented by Pinot Noir and selected from 11 of the 17 Grand Crus of Champagne. 12 years on lees. 7 g/l dosage

As early as 1976 Laurent-Perrier launched a Brut Natura (zero dosage) becoming the first Champagne without any added sugar in the dosage.

The Ultra Brut is a blend of 55% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir with grapes sourced from 15 Crus. The reserve wines are based mainly on the 2016 and 2012 vintages.  Spends approx. 6 years aging prior to disgorgement. Rigorous selection is required to obtain grapes with exactly the right level of ripeness to achieve a wine so well balanced it doesn’t require dosage at bottling.

The Pernand-Vergelesses vineyards are in a very hilly areas stretching between Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune.  There are only 6 Premier Crus in Pernand-Vergelesses.   Winemaking information not available.

From high-altitude vineyards in Salta at 3000 metres above sea level. 25% of the wine is matured in French oak for 8 months, whilst the rest is matured in Stainless steel tanks. Produce only 7,000 bottles.

Contratto was established in 1867 by Giuseppe Contratto, producing one of Italy´s first traditional method sparkling wines.  The winery was purchased by the Rivetti family in 2011.

From the Alta Langhe DOCG, with vineyards located 750 – 800 m above sea level.

Winemaking: fermented in stainless steel. The base wine is aged for 9 months on the fine lees prior to the second fermentation in bottle. Aged 48 months prior to disgorgement. No dosage.

Vina Leyda lies within the cool coastal area of Leyda Valley which is located only 4km from the cool Pacific coast, creating ideal conditions for creating cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, just like in cooler areas of California (eg. Sonoma, Santa Barbera).  Vina Leyda is known especially for their cool climate wines, and make both estate wines, single vineyard and single block Pinot Noirs which are worth exploring.

Winemaking: Hand-harvested. 3 days cold maceration, fermentation in stainless steel tanks, 20% matured in french oak casks.

Pieropan´s estate covers 30 ha of vineyards, all in the stony hills of the Soave Classico zone. Made from Organic grapes. Winemaking: fermentation in an inert vessel moderate temperature 15 – 18’C followed by resting on leees for 1 year in tank.  Made with 70% Garganega, 30% Trebbiano.  Garganega gives structure and acidity whilst Trebbiano di Soave gives perfume and richness.

Tasting Notes:

Lovely deep ruby colour. Full body youthful and elegant wine with rich aromatics – red plums, red cherries and spice. On the palate fresh acidity balanced by generous red and black cherries, blackberries, liquorice and hints of black olives, savoury firm and supple tannins and a lingering finish.    A lot of wine for your money, surprised by the price!  Would be excellent with smokey spare ribs! Could also enjoy this happily by the glass on its own.

Rafael Palacios, brother of Spain´s leading winemaker Alvaro Palacios, makes wines with the same attention to detail and enthusiasm as the rest of his family. Whilst the family started making wines in Rioja, Rafael headed to the green north-west of Spain to Galicia and in particular to the DO Valdeorras. Here the Godello grape is finding international recognition in the same way that Albarino in Rias Baixas and Verdejo in Rueda are now firmly established designations.

Rafael works with over 20 small parcels around the region, some vine up to 100 years old.

First produced in 1982, John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship wine of Wynns. This wine is made in very small quantities from the best fruit from Wynn´s extensive estate in Coonawarra in the famous terra rossa soils. Less than 1% of the top-quality selection of grapes makes its way into this wine.

Winemaking: aged 16 months in new (31%) and used French oak.
