5 top reasons to
take a WSET wine course on Zoom
with Oslo Wine School
and why it might be the best way to achieve top grades!
Oslo Wine School offers a wide range of WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) wine courses and provides the most widely recognised wine education system in the world. So why should you choose to take a wine course via Zoom instead of in the classroom? After all, don´t we all want to forget about the Pandemic era?
Jane Nisbet Huseby, established Oslo Wine School, Norway´s fastest growing wine school in February 2020. Little did she know that just a month later, the way we do business and teach about wine would change forever. When the pandemic arrived however, Oslo Wine School was already well prepared. With many years of experience holding international business meetings via Zoom, Jane quickly adapted to this new challenge, and Oslo Wine School flourished as a result. The timing was perfect. Everyone had more time on their hands, more people were buying wines and we all had great internet connections no matter how remote or isolated our lives had become. In many ways, Oslo Wine School instantly became a national provider of high-quality wine courses in Norway, and through our Zoom courses we reached a larger wine-interested audience than we could ever have imagined. So, what are the main benefits for our students?
1. A new community of wine lovers: From Tana in the north to Kristiansand in the south, we create communities of students who make new friends both in our Zoom classes and later in various wine tasting events that followed. Our classes provide an inspiring network for many wine enthusiasts, who otherwise find it difficult to meet like-minded people with the same level of interest in wines in their own local community. Every week students engage in lively discussions and taste wines with us live on Zoom from all over Norway. One of our students Ragnild said that there were no WSET courses less than a few hours away by plane for her, so she was so happy to be able to study at home using exactly the same wines as the rest of her classmates.
2. A systematic approach to learning about wine: All our WSET wine courses are well-proven in more than 50 countries, and use a step-by-step approach to building wine knowledge. This means students achieve a broad understanding of wine from all regions and major wine-producing countries around the world. Progress is gradual, and while many find Level 1 in Wine to be quite easy, Level 2 in Wine provides many challenges to the average wine-lover. Level 3 in Wine provides a solid platform of wine knowledge, and successful students finish with a broad understanding of wine quality globally.
3. Our Zoom course students achieve higher grades: Taking a wine course on Zoom allows more one-to-one interaction and more opportunities to ask questions about difficult topics. In addition, each session is recorded, and students can access the recordings to re-listen to the session. This means that even if you are not confident speaking English, you can still participate in the classes and achieve top results as many of our students have proven!
4. Learn more about wine without leaving the house on a dark cold evening: Imagine that you can gain so much knowledge, taste and evaluate wines, then discuss them in detail with your classmates without leaving the house! We carefully select wines that are available anywhere in Norway through the Vinmonopolet system, thereby ensuring everyone has access to the same wine. Sometimes students gain also some unexpected knowledge, like the time Knut found his wine to be completely unlike anyone else´s wine, instead of being floral and fruity, his wine smelt of nothing and had a bad taste in the mouth. Now he knows what we mean by the term “a wine is corked”!
5. Give your career a boost! A part-time course on Zoom one evening per week is easy to combine with a full-time job. We have a range of students from a wide variety of professional backgrounds including doctors, teachers, geologists, therapists, business managers, investors, as well as many students and pensioners. A common theme for this group is they just want to increase their wine knowledge. However, Christian decided this was the time to change career, having initially worked as a teacher, he is now a successful wine importer! We also have many students working in the hotel and restaurant industry. Their aim is usually to gain international certification in wine in the English language and earn that next promotion at work. Whether they are a Waiter/Waitress, Chef, Administrator, Restaurant Manager or Sommelier, our WSET wine courses provide a solid foundation to pursue a successful career related to wine. We have tailored our Zoom courses to their needs, and therefore our WSET courses are many held on Monday and Tuesday evenings, the most convenient evenings for anyone working in HoReCa.
There are many reasons to choose a Zoom-based WSET course from Oslo Wine School. Whether you want to increase your wine friend community, learn a systematic approach to tasting, achieve high grades, study from home or give your career a boost, we have many great reasons to study with us.
