Carpazo Vigna La Casa Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015, Tuscany, Italy

Its been a busy week with lots of tastings so I wanted to share with you one of the wines that really made me sit back in my chair in pure enjoyment

The DOCG region Brunello di Montalcino in Tuscany is well-known for producing some of the best wines in Italy and rivals often the top wines of Piemonte such as Barolo and Barbaresco. Brunellos are red wines made from 100% Sangiovese, they can age exceptionally well, and some age successfully for 40 years or more. Often, when they are released at 5 years old, they are still extremely young barely showing their repertoire, and behave more like a coiled-up spring with powerful tannins. You will rarely find a Brunello below 450 kr and with good reason. At the bottom end of the market, you will find good Brunellos, however their ability to age will most likely be much shorter and they may not show the same finesse.

Carpazo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna La Casa 2015

This particular wine is a classic, its sits mid-priced at 689 kr and in my opinion it´s worth every kroner. First produced in 1977, Carpazzo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG La Casa has always been a single vineyard site wine and well-known for its elegance, however what I really liked about the 2015 vintage of this wine is that it is elegant, complex, juicy and its possible to drink it right now (albeit preferably with a couple of hours of decanting).  If you are interested in tasting and learning more about Fine Wines, I think this is an excellent wine to set  you off on the right path.

Price: 689 kr.

Medium red brick/crimson with pale edge.  Ripe savoury, dusty red cherries, cinnamon and savoury spice, rosehip Feels young, slightly meaty (red meat) undertones, pomegranate and warm baked earth. Perfumed and elegant.  On the palate, very elegant with refreshing acidity, very good concentration of red cherries, redcurrants, with firm fine-grained chalky tannins and a long lingering finish. very well balanced with a lovely mid-palate and 14% abv.  Beautifully elegant now, complex and very fruit focused with minimal tertiary development but has a long ageing potential and can continue to be enjoyed over the next 10 – 15 years or more.  Outstanding wine. Decant preferably 2 hours before enjoying
